African Teak (IROKO)

African Teak is preferred for outdoor use due to its resistance to moisture and varying climate conditions.

African Teak has a natural protective oil within and is a stable wood that keeps its shape after being " worked."

Over time, the African Teak turns from a creamy yellow to a chocolate brown. It can be left to "weather" naturally, or may be periodically treated with "Teak Oil" to preserve the natural color and moisture.

African Teak is also resistant to natural decomposition and insects.

Maintenance of African Teak
Teak oil is made from natural oils with a wax like structure that protects the wood against water and increases its life.

The oil should be applied with a brush and after a couple of minutes, wipe the wood with a clean cloth.

Although one coat is usually enough , two coats are recommended and there should be a minimum of 16 hours between each coat.

The maintenance should be repeated every one to two years or more under harsh conditions depending up on the particular application.

Care should be taken that the oil is not be applied on very hot or rainy days.

The surface must be cleaned completely of dust with a damp cloth.

If sanding the surface first is necessary, No.150-180 sand paper should be used.
